Designed by globally-renowned data scientists, the Master of Applied Data Science introduces you to data science foundations (including databases, mathematical foundations and algorithms) to set you up for success in advanced topics such as data exploration, data wrangling and big data processing.
Our program bridges the gap between data analytics theory and practice, with a focus on job readiness. As you build your expertise in advanced data science topics, you’ll also have the chance to put it into action in an analytics-focused professional development project.
What you will learn

Apply data exploration, data mining, python programming and machine learning tools to apply data science theory to practice. - Data in context
Understand the community impact of data analysis, including ethical and legal issues, and privacy and security norms regarding the practice of data science. - Data science application
Plan and develop a project using knowledge of the data science lifecycle. Investigate, analyse, document and share the requirements and issues in developing data analysis capabilities within the context of a global organisation.

Part A: Foundation studies: 3 units
Build your foundation in applied data science.

• Algorithms and programming foundations in Python
Part B: Core studies: 3 units
These units draw on best practice and research to bring you deeper into data analytics.
• Introduction to data science
• Data wrangling
• Statistical data modelling
Part C: Specialist studies: 4 units
Choose four of the following units to build specialist knowledge in an area of data science.
• Data exploration and visualisation
• Machine learning
• Data in society
• Applied data analysis
• Data processing for big data
• Data analysis for semi-structured data
Part D: Applied practice: 2 units
You will work through professional or scholarly tasks to contribute to a professional portfolio.

Entry Requirements
An Australian bachelor’s degree in a cognate discipline or an equivalent qualification and achieved an Australian Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60 or an equivalent Grade Point Average as determined by the faculty.
*Cognate disciplines include: IT, Computer Science, Data Science, science, economics and econometrics.
